The combined indoor and outdoor facilities at the college are considered by many to be among the finest in the nation. Over 700 students participate in the intercollegiate athletics program. In addition, approximately 80 percent of the student -body participates in the intramural program each year. The newest addition to the Gustavus athletic facilities is the soccer and track complex, which was added in 2002, while the oldest facility at Gustavus is the football field, which was constructed in 1905. Strong athletic and recreational facilities support the Gustavus mission of encouraging its students to exercise the mind, the body, and the soul for overall health.
