- CSUMB does academics differently, following an outcomes-based educational model that gives students an edge in the modern workplace. - On-campus activities include intercollegiate athletics, intramural and club sports, boating and outdoor recreation, student organizations, performing arts, cultural events, lectures, live music, and much more. Outstanding facilities such as the World Theater, Otter Sports Center, pool, hiking and cycling trails, disc golf course, student center, Otter Bay Cafe, and Black Box Cabaret make participation a pleasure. Minutes away from campus, Carmel, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, and Seaside offer premiere dining, entertainment, and recreation that make this a world-renowned travel destination.
- CSUMB is located one mile from the shores of Monterey Bay, a few miles north of the Monterey Peninsula and west of Salinas. The campus straddles two small coastal cities, with the central campus in Seaside and the East Campus Housing areas in Marina.
- For the third consecutive year, the service learning program has been recognized by the editors of U.S. News and World Report in the magazine's 2007 edition of America's Best Colleges. CSUMB also earned a top ranking among liberal arts colleges it was second among public schools in the category of economic diversity, with 38 percent of students receiving federal Pell Grants.
