School Notes:

  • The curriculum of a liberal arts college, considered in the broadest sense, is a course of study planned and organized for the purpose of leading a student to a definite educational objective. The curriculum, however, is only one of several essential components of a higher education; the other important constituents are the student, the professor, co-curricular programs, and the physical and intellectual environment.
  • We build breadth through the liberal arts foundation; depth, through the student's academic major; and distinction, through elective courses that are tailored to individual interests. The last of these, however — discovery — cannot be packaged, for it describes the spirit in which students and faculty come together.
  • Convocations at Bridgewater College serve an integrative function in the general liberal arts educational program. This purpose reflects the desire of the College to emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to issues in all academic fields. Diverse media such as lectures, films, art, drama, and music are used to achieve those educational goals.
  • Bridgewater College's campus is located in the heart of the beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley, seven miles south of Harrisonburg, Virginia. The College is an easy 2-hour drive from the educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities of Washington, D.C., Richmond, and Roanoke.
  • Bridgewater College has been cited by the John Templeton Foundation as a "college that encourages character development." Especially noteworthy are our Personal Development Portfolio Program (1 of 60 colleges to be recognized for first-year programs) and our Academic Integrity - Honor Code (1 of 35 colleges to be recognized).
