These are fostered by small seminar classes and individual student-faculty tutorials made possible by a very low student-to-faculty ratio of 6-to-1. It is a lively community of students, scholars, and artists offering outstanding programs in the humanities, the natural sciences and mathematics, history and the social sciences, and the creative and performing arts.

School Notes:

  • The educational aims and objectives of the college are realized through practices which center upon the growth of the individual and the crucial role played in this growth by the relationship between student and teacher. We believe this humanistic stance to be important in a time of increasing depersonalization and specialization. These practices are translated into a set of characteristics which, taken together, mark the college as distinctive.
  • We provide a three-course educational program for all students. In special cases, students may take four courses and, in the senior year, may elect to do a consolidated Senior Thesis under the guidance of teachers in several areas of study.
  • Campus life at SLC reflects the intellectual, social and personal interests of the entire College community. The freedom to pursue your interests—both academically and socially—makes possible a level of engagement that blurs the line between work and play. Your academic pursuits integrate seamlessly with—and inform—your social endeavors...and vice versa. On-campus events regularly include poetry readings and performances, theatre and dance productions, art exhibits, musical performances featuring on-campus musicians as well as local and national performers, dances, bands, films and special events.
  • Sarah Lawrence College is located 15 miles north of midtown Manhattan in southern Westchester County, New York, bordering the communities of Yonkers and Bronxville. The SLC campus occupies 41 wooded acres. Ivy-covered Tudor-style and contemporary buildings house classrooms, faculty offices and students. Sarah Lawrence has outstanding library, performing arts, music, visual arts, science, computing and sports facilities.
